Corinth was a thriving city along a trade route in the ancient world where the Apostle Paul had established a Christian community about 51AD during his second missionary journey. The city was a melting pot full of devotees of various pagan cults and marked by a measure of moral depravity not unusual in a great seaport. While in Ephesus, on his third missionary journey, Paul learned that the cities influences had began to divide the church over various issues. In this 1 Corinthians letter, Paul addresses the brokenness within the church at Corinth and how only the good news of Jesus can unify and restore.
